Ladies
and gentlemen, start your torque wrenches!
Your three-person pit crew can compete against other UH student
teams, racing against the clock to change a tire on Shell’s
Formula One Ferrari racecar. Prizes will be awarded to the winning
teams, and $1,000 will go to the college that enters the most
teams. The Shell Pit Stop Challenge is set for 9:30 a.m. to 3
p.m. Sept. 7 at the University Center’s North Patio. Each
team should allow about 15 minutes to check in, compete, and have
their photo taken. The competition is open to all UH students.

On Thursday, September 7 2006, NonStopTuning entered our team
of University of Houston students to compete in The Shell Pit
Stop Challenge at UH! Team NST included Mike, Amy, and Marwyn
of Houston.
Having never worked on an F1 car in the past, we were excited
and a little nervous to get to the task at hand. Nearly 20 teams
were expected to compete throughout the day and we were sure the
level of competition would be pretty high.
Our first chance to "show our skills" came at about
12pm. We walked over to the Shell Ferrari and got to work. Marwyn,
our trigger man, was given the task of removing the hexagon shaped
lugg-nutt and Amy was charged with pulling the wheel off the axle.
Mike would then come in to place the replacement wheel on the
axle, and Marwyn would need to use his air gun again to secure
the lugg-nutt back on the new wheel as quickly as possible.

To our surprise, we did a very good job and set the best time
of the day (up to this point) at 7.86 seconds! This time would
hold up for the next hour before it was taken down by another
team, "Cougar Racing."
Our 7.86 second run was taken down by a 6.20 second run by Cougar
Racing, but as it turned out teams were allowed to go up again
for a chance to improve on their times after having been taken
down by another opponent. We had such a great time and had done
so well earlier, that we gladly took this opportunity to go back
to work again...
We rocked the house this time with a record time that would prove
to hold for the rest of the afternoon!
Our best effort landed us a 5.58 second time and we were stoked!!!
Our 5.58 second run would not be broken the rest of the afternoon
and we were crowned champs...
!!!NST FOR THE WIN!!!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came
out to cheer us on, compete, or take pics. I really enjoyed spending
the day with all of you and had a blast in the competition. Thank
you so very much!
